About Special Delivery Doulas Special Delivery Doula service was founded in 1991 to the meet the needs of an ever-growing population of women that do not have the support they need in making the transition into motherhood. In most cultures and in many other countries, there is help provided for new moms up to six weeks after giving birth. At the time we began our doula service, moms were being released from the hospital 24 hours after giving birth. Our hope was to help each family that we cared for transition into parenthood as smoothly as possible. Most of what we did then and still do today is mentor the mothers we care for. We tailor the care for each mom to her needs and desires. Each family we have cared for has been very unique and therefore their needs are unique also. Much of our experience with preemies, mutiples, and special needs infants. We are very good listeners and are watchful to care for each mom and family as individuals, focusing on their desires and their goals. We are non-intrusive in the lives of our families. As I personally have been caring for families for many years, I have formed a very special bond with each family and many times I continue to work with these families when they have their 2nd or 3rd child.
